Abstract

Audio clarity enhancement remains a fundamental challenge in modern signal processing systems, particularly in environments characterized by non-stationary noise, nonlinear distortion, and bandwidth-constrained transmission channels. This research proposes a unified framework for robust speech and audio restoration based on likelihood-driven quality evaluation and adaptive optimization strategies. The central hypothesis is that perceptual audio quality can be significantly improved when signal reconstruction is guided not only by deterministic filtering mechanisms but also by probabilistic quality estimation and metaheuristic parameter optimization.

The study synthesizes classical control-theoretic approaches with evolutionary computation techniques to construct a hybrid optimization pipeline for audio enhancement. Specifically, likelihood-based evaluation functions are employed to quantify reconstruction fidelity, while adaptive tuning methods inspired by evolutionary and swarm intelligence models refine system parameters dynamically. Foundational concepts from control systems literature, including PID tuning strategies and performance indices, are extended into the audio processing domain to support adaptive gain control and noise suppression. Prior research on optimization-driven system modeling demonstrates that heuristic search strategies such as genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization can significantly improve convergence behavior in nonlinear systems (Aljahdali & El-telbany, 2008; Arora & Baghel, 2015).

Furthermore, this work integrates principles from communication theory, particularly signal-to-noise ratio modeling and probabilistic signal inference, to establish a likelihood-based perceptual evaluation mechanism grounded in Shannon’s information framework. The proposed methodology is validated conceptually against established optimization-based speech enhancement approaches, including the speech enhancement model using likelihood quality estimation and optimization techniques presented by (Jose & Anoop, 2020), which demonstrated that joint optimization of perceptual metrics and filtering parameters yields superior enhancement performance in noisy environments.

The findings suggest that combining statistical likelihood evaluation with adaptive optimization significantly improves audio intelligibility, reduces spectral distortion, and enhances robustness under varying acoustic conditions. The study concludes that hybrid optimization frameworks provide a scalable pathway for next-generation intelligent audio systems, particularly in real-time communication, assistive listening devices, and distributed acoustic sensing applications.
