Abstract

The rapid evolution of distributed cloud ecosystems has intensified the need for platform-neutral integration architectures capable of bridging heterogeneous Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments, application platforms, and enterprise systems. Traditional cloud integration models are often constrained by vendor lock-in, limited interoperability, and fragmented control planes, leading to inefficiencies in hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. This research proposes a platform-neutral distributed cloud connectivity architecture leveraging Dell Boomi and SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) to enable seamless integration, orchestration, and governance across diverse cloud environments.

The study synthesizes established cloud computing paradigms, including virtualized datacenter evolution, federated cloud infrastructures, and IaaS security models, to construct a unified architectural framework. Foundational insights from virtualization-centric cloud transformation (Chen, 2011), distributed IaaS control plane design (Nguyen et al.), and federated cloud interoperability (Moreno-Vozmediano et al.) are integrated with modern integration Platform-as-a-Service (iPaaS) capabilities. The proposed architecture emphasizes abstraction of underlying cloud providers while maintaining secure, scalable, and event-driven connectivity.

A central contribution of this work is the conceptual mapping of enterprise integration workflows onto a hybrid Boomi–SAP BTP layer, enabling dynamic routing, API-led connectivity, and metadata-driven orchestration. The research also critically evaluates security challenges in IaaS environments (Dawoud et al.) and aligns them with multi-cloud governance mechanisms. Additionally, strategic alignment and technological evolution perspectives are informed by technology roadmapping methodologies (Petrick & Echols; Loureiro et al.), ensuring long-term adaptability of the architecture.

The findings indicate that a platform-neutral integration layer significantly reduces operational complexity, improves interoperability across cloud providers, and enhances system resilience. However, challenges remain in latency optimization, policy standardization, and cross-platform observability. The study contributes a structured reference architecture and highlights its applicability in enterprise-scale digital transformation initiatives, particularly in multi-cloud ERP, data integration, and distributed application ecosystems.
