Digital Supply Chain Resilience Through Integrated SAP Production Planning and Strategic Procurement Coordination

Digital supply chains increasingly depend on the ability to coordinate production capacity, procurement decisions, inventory availability, and demand variability under uncertain operating conditions. This research examines how integrated SAP production planning and strategic procurement coordination can strengthen digital supply chain resilience by connecting capacity decisions with sourcing and resource-allocation mechanisms. The study adopts a conceptual and analytical research design based exclusively on the supplied literature and develops an integrated resilience framework linking production planning, procurement synchronization, flexible capacity, demand allocation, and operational visibility. The literature indicates that flexibility has substantial value when capacity is constrained or demand is heterogeneous, while dynamic allocation and optimization approaches can improve resource utilization under variable operating conditions (Achal et al., 2012; Bish and Wang, 2004; Gong et al., 2012). Research on overflow, pooling, and capacity coordination further demonstrates that isolated capacity decisions can produce inefficient outcomes when demand exceeds planned resources (Dai and Shi, 2019; Izady and Mohamed, 2021; Lim et al., 2024). Building on these insights, the proposed framework positions SAP as an integration mechanism through which production requirements, procurement commitments, capacity availability, and exception information can be coordinated. The analysis suggests that resilience is not achieved through inventory accumulation alone but through synchronized decision-making, flexible capacity, and rapid reallocation. The study contributes a research-oriented model for understanding how integrated production–procurement planning can improve responsiveness, resource utilization, and continuity under supply-chain disruption.
